Day 3: God Gives Us Wisdom

Bible story: Joseph leads Egypt through famine. (Genesis 41:41-42:5)
Bible verse: "If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you." (James 1:5)

In the palace tonight, Joseph told us about what happened after he had explained Pharoah's dreams. With the wisdom God gave him, Joseph knew to gather one-fifth of Egypt's crops for seven years. Because those were abundant years, Joseph collected plenty of grain.

That was a good thing because after those seven years, Egypt was hit with seven years of famine. It was a severe famine, too! Even in Canaan, 200 miles away, people were feeling the effects. Joseph's father sent his sons to Egypt to get grain, and they ended up coming face to face with Joseph, the brother they had sold into slavery years earlier. How would Joseph respond to his brothers who had betrayed him? This would be another example of how badly Joseph needed God's wisdom!

How many times do we face problems and don't know what to do? God has given us incredible resources to solve problems. God tells us that if we need wisdom, all we need to do is ask.

Preschool's Grand Finale

Tonight was the final night for our preschool VBS. Our preschoolers enjoyed their tour of Egypt!

We're so thankful for all the super servants who were such good tour guides!

Back to the Pyramid Playground

At the Pyramid Playground, our touring families played several games to learn more about Egypt. They played "Follow the Pharoah," jumping, spinning or "walking like an Egyptian" when the Pharoah asked.
They also had a relay race with wet sponges. The sponges represented the scented cones that Egyptians would wear on their heads at elaborate feasts and celebrations. Because they were made of scented fat, as the cones got hot, the fact melted and released the scent!

Because today's lesson was about wisdom, playground visitors also had to use wisdom to untangle themselves after they all joined hands.

Donations for Africa

Tonight we continued donating money to provide a VBS for AIDS orphans in Kenya.

Our goal is to raise $700 to go to Tumaini International Ministries.

Once again, we were amazed at everyone's generosity! Tonight $188.64 was given!

That brings our three-day total to $398.69!

Scenes from the Marketplace: Barbershop and Linen Shop

This week our tourists have visited the barbershop and linen shop. In the barbershop and salon, our guests learn about how much Egyptians cared about their looks—even how they looked after they died! Our barbers showed the children how to make headbands, Egyptian style.

In the linen shop, our guests helped to make blankets, but these blankets aren't for sale in the marketplace. These will be donated to children in need elsewhere in the world.
