Day 2: Jesus teaches us

Key verse: "Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you." (Matthew 7:12)

After our praise and worship time tonight, we witnessed a woman apologizing to her friend. This woman had just heard a life-changing message from a man called Jesus. Because of that lesson, this woman wanted to be a better person and live by the golden rule.

In their tribes and in the synagogue, kids learned about Jesus' Sermon on the Mount.

When Jesus first preached in Galilee, he changed many lives. How wonderful that he still changes our lives today!

Fun with 2s and 3s

With so much activity in the Family Center, it would be easy to overlook the learning going on in the Children's Courtyard. But our 2- and 3-year-olds are busy, busy, busy learning about Jesus during VBS, too!

These age-appropriate activities give our preschoolers a chance to experience Galilee-by-the-Sea in ways they won't soon forget!

And the fun isn't restricted to just those who are 2 or older! We are blessed with many Super Servants helping with VBS, and in some cases, those servants have children younger than 2. While the older children participate in other parts of the building, even our littlest students get their own VBS experience!

Scenes from the Marketplace: Carpenter's Shop

Everyone is put to work in the Marketplace! Here our children are learning about the world of carpentry.

Scenes from the Marketplace: Fisherman's Hut

Sailing is important in Galilee-by-the-Sea, so our children are learning about fishermen's boats and nets. This is just one of the many Marketplace visits they'll make during the week of VBS.

Scenes from the Marketplace: Toymaker's Shop

Our children aren't just learning about Bibletimes occupations! They're also trying their hands at making their own toys, like these sailboats.

Day 1: Jesus chooses us

Tonight's key verse: "Jesus called out to them, 'Come, follow me.'" (Matthew 4:19)

We're off to a great start! Before welcoming the children, Jamba had some instructions for and prayed with our group of Super Servants.

As children arrived, the singing began. We sang some old favorites and learned a few songs that were written especially for Galilee-by-the-Sea.
After most kids had found their tribes, Jamba welcomed everyone and explained how our trip to Galilee would work.
The first order of business: Tribe Time! Each tribe went to its own spot in the building to get acquainted and talk about what they'd be doing that night.

After Tribe Time, each group ventured to the synagogue, the seaside playground or the Marketplace. In the synagogue, kids learned from erudite scholars:
At the seaside playground, children tried out a variety of games:

In the Marketplace, the tribes visited the Bibletimes shops. One of the Marketplace experiences was the brickmakers' shop. Talk about getting your hands dirty!
Another of the tribes' stops: the basketweaving shop.

While visiting the Marketplace, tribes witnessed a conversation between a husband and wife. Seems the man had an encounter with Jesus. Jesus was looking for people to be fishers of men! Also wandering around was a Pharisee who turned his prayers into a show so everyone in the Marketplace could see how "holy" he is:
A few tribes ran into a tax collector:And several noticed the "Wise One" as they moved from station to station:WHEW! And these are just a few of the unforgettable events our kids experienced tonight! Stay tuned throughout the week as we provide a glimpse into other Marketplace shops and highlight what our younger kids are doing, too.
