They marched in and announced they were going to close her metal shop.
The guards said they had heard she was one of those Christ-followers. Was this true?
She said yes. She refused to deny her faith!
Because of that, the guards closed her shop.
We were sad to see her shop closed, but we were proud of her for standing up for Jesus.
It didn't take long before she was SURROUNDED! Lots of kids were more than happy to take samples of her fresh bread.
But then one young man came up and stole money from her!
Our Roman guards were right there, ready to arrest him and take him away. The woman could not understand why he had stolen from her, but he explained that he is starving because he is too poor to feed himself.
Once she heard his story, she told the guards to let him go. She forgave him and did not want the guards to hurt him. The guards could not understand why she would do this until they found out that she is a Christ-follower!
While our families visited the Marketplace shops tonight, we found out that the Emperor wants the architect, Severus, to leave his job and family to work on a special project.
Severus did not want to take on the assignment because it would mean leaving his family.
This was an offer he really could not refuse. The Emperor is a very powerful man!
The Emperor's representative tries to let Severus know that "no" is not an option.
Feeling he had no choice but to agree, Severus agrees to go.
The Emperor's representative is relieved that Severus has accepted the Emperor's job offer, and he tells Severus that his wife and family will be taken care of while he is working for the Emperor.
He began by calling for his slave, Tullius.
When Tullius joined him, Atticus told him that he would now free him from slavery.
With this gesture, Tullius became a free man! He ran excitedly from the Marketplace. He'll never be the same again.
"Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think." —Romans 12:2
While we were in the Marketplace today, Mary came running in, looking for Peter. She wanted to tell him that Jesus is alive!
Peter first tried to get Mary to hide with him. Peter was still afraid for their lives because he had seen the way Jesus was killed.
Mary insisted that Jesus' tomb was empty! She had seen and talked to Jesus himself. He's alive!
Peter still had a hard time believing her. Jesus died three days ago. How could He be alive?
Mary kept telling Peter that Jesus had risen from the dead. She left the Marketplace to go tell the others, and Peter took off to see if Jesus had really come back to life.
Jesus came in and greeted everyone.
At the end of our Marketplace time tonight, Jamba reminded everyone that while we have had fun acting out these stories from the Bible, we need to remember that these events really happened! Jesus lived here on earth, shared His love, showed us how to live, was crucified, and then was raised from the dead—and He lives today!
Tonight in the Marketplace, we saw Peter being chased by two people who accused him of knowing Jesus.
The accusers said that Peter was there when Jesus was crucified and that Peter was a Jesus-follower.
Peter denied the accusations over and over again.
After the others were gone, Peter fell to his knees, crying. Jesus had died, and Peter didn't even admit that he had followed Him and called Him Lord.
In the Marketplace this week, we've heard the people of Jerusalem talking about Jesus: about how was celebrated as He arrived in Jerusalem and how He showed God's love as He washed His friends' feet. We've also seen Marketplace people upset and confused because Jesus was arrested, and now we hear that Jesus has died. We thank God that Jesus' death isn't the end, and coming up Friday night, we'll get to hear more of this greatest story ever told.
When James found Hannah and Mary of Magdala near the well, he told them that Jesus had been arrested!
Jesus had gone to the garden of Gethsemane to pray, but Temple guards had taken him away.
Mary was worried about Jesus and wanted to see him.
Hannah couldn't understand why anyone would want to arrest someone who loves people so much.
James and the women ran away to find Mary, Jesus' mother, to let her know about these developments.
