Day 2: God Gives Us Special Abilities

Bible story: Pharoah puts Joseph in charge. (Genesis 41:1-40)

Bible verse: "In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well." (Romans 12:6)

When we last saw Joseph, he had helped two fellow prisoners, a baker and a cupbearer, understand their dreams. They were supposed to remember Joseph's help, but the baker was executed and the cupbearer forgot his promise. That means Joseph was left in prison.

When our visitors tried to visit Joseph in prison tonight, he wasn't there! We found him in the palace, and it was there that he told us his story:

Two years after helping the baker and cupbearer, Joseph was still in prison. The forgetful cupbearer, however, was in Pharoah's court. When Pharoah had two dreams that no one could interpret, the cupbearer remembered Joseph. Pharoah called for Joseph, and he was able to use his God-given ability to tell the Pharoah what his dreams meant.

Pharoah was impressed! He gave Joseph much power and responsibility. Because of his gifts from God, Joseph was able to help Pharoah see Egypt through seven years of famine.

God still gives each person unique abilities, and they're all useful for serving Him. Let's celebrate the abilities God has given us and work to find ways to use them for His work.

Responding to the Challenge

Our world-changers continued to donate money to provide a VBS for AIDS orphans in Africa.

It's awesome to see these kids so EXCITED to help other children learn about God's love! Our goal is to raise $700 to fund the VBS for Tumaini International Ministries. After two days of donations, we have collected $210.10!

Scenes from the Marketplace: Toy Shop and Embalmer's Workshop

Each night our guests visit our marketplace for hands-on activities to get an idea of what life was like in ancient Egypt. Tonight we take a look at the toy shop, where our tourists make a Senet game, an Egyptian board game. We also visit the embalmer's workshop, where our guests learn about mummies and decorate a sarcophagus.

(If you recognize some of these images from a previous post, it's because a few photos inadvertently appeared with the hieroglyphics pictures last night!)

Out at the Pyramid Playground

Each night our tourists take a break from the Egyptian shops and head out to the Pyramid Playground. There they play games to discover more about life in ancient Egypt.

Already the children have been hunting (with hula hoops) and fishing (with watermelons), and they have turned willing volunteers into mummies!

A Visit to the Nursery

It takes many volunteers to make our VBS happen, and many of those "super servants" have children who are too young for the preschool VBS. That's why we have a nursery for these little ones.

We're so thankful for the volunteers who take such good care of these children so their parents can work with the older kids!
